Jale Karabekir
Jale Karabekir was graduated from Dramaturgy and Theatre Criticism Department of Istanbul University. She has an MA degree from Sociology Department at Boğaziçi University where she worked as research assistant for four years. The title of her thesis is “Performance As a Strategy For Women’s Liberation: Practices of the Theatre of the Oppressed in Okmeydanı Social Center” that is published as a book in Turkish entitled “Türkiye’de Kadınlarla Ezilenlerin Tiyatrosu: Feminist Bir Metodolojiye Doğru (Theatre of the Oppressed with Women in Turkey: Towards a Feminist Methodology)” by Agora Kitaplığı in 2015. She worked as a part-time instructor at Humanities and Social Sciences Department of Işık University between 2008 and 2020.
Jale is the founder and artistic director of the feminist theatre company, Tiyatro Boyalı Kuş, since 2000. She works as a director, dramaturg, playwright, translator and also facilitator of the theatre of the oppressed techniques of Augusto Boal. She is also co-founder of CTO-Turkey since 2008. She is one of the international directors of the institute Jana Sanskriti International Research and Resource Institute since 2015. Her fields of interest are gender, performance theory, feminism, life stories as well as oral history.
